INSTRUCTOR TRAINING COURSE

The next YAI Training courses for Sail and Power Boat Instructors and Asst Instructors  is scheduled during 30 Mar -10 Apr 2011 at INWTC (Mumbai).

The Sail Training Courses are intensive, ten-day, ninety-hour courses consisting of classroom, dry-land drills, and on-the water exercises. The course concentrates on the teaching of sailing in small single-handed or double-handed boats and driving a Safety Boat.

The Power Boating Course consist of: principles of practical instruction, lesson planning, teaching styles, use of questioning, preparation and use of visual aids, assessment of students' learning, explanation and presentation of theory subjects, the structure of the scheme, planning progressive teaching sessions, preparation of boats and equipment and teaching methods.

Life Saving Certification is included in the course fee and will be conducted during the Course.

Application form can be downloaded from the website and must reach the YAI secretariat by 20 March 2011 along with requisite fees.

The YAI Training Courses have applied for ISAF Recognized Training accreditation programme and an ISAF team will be visiting to review the Training Programmes shortly.

SAIL THE GULF REGATTA 2011

     Upamanyu Dutta on Sunday bagged a Gold Medal in Optimist event at the 19th Sail the Gulf Regatta in Doha, Qatar whilst Yakubo Kalaga and Taramati Matiwade won the Gold in the Hobie 16 event.



The Optimist, was one of the most keenly contested events at the regatta, with 41 boats from nine countries. Chintan Chattbar finished 5th, Vishnu Sujeesh 9th and Vir Menon finished 10th overall. Amongst the girls Ruqayya Mustafa Nasrulla finished 17th overall and 5th amongst the girls. Indian sailors also won the team sailing Silver and Bronze medals.

In the 29er class Aman Vyas and Sachin Singha finished 6th whilst mixed pair of Varun and Aishwarya finished 7th overall. The Norwegian sailors dominated the 29er class winning all three medals at stake.

In the Laser 4.7 event the Indian sailors had mixed results with Praveen Prabhakar finishing 10th and Shewata Sadanandan 11th and Ravindhar Murali finished 22nd overall.

There were only five entries in the Hobie 16, where Yakubo Kalaga and Taramati Matiwade won the Gold Medal.

In the Laser (Standard) Gaurav Randhawa who was in contention for a bronze medal going into the final day was disqualified in the final race and finished 5th overall.

Competitors ranged from Asian Games medalist to beginners, from more than 20 countries. Mr. Khalifa M. Al-Sewaidi, President QSRF gave away the prizes to the winners.
